How to switch from ServiceM8 to Trusso

ServiceM8 keeps your data exportable — client and job lists as CSVs, plus a full account backup that includes your documents. The switch mostly comes down to pulling those exports and letting Trusso's importer do the rest.

This guide covers the ServiceM8 exports worth taking, the account backup that preserves your files, the customer import into Trusso — which recognizes ServiceM8's columns automatically — and a go-live checklist.

Why crews leave ServiceM8

The most common trigger is hardware: ServiceM8's field app runs on iPhone and iPad only, so the day you hire someone with an Android phone, they can't work out of your system. Pricing is also metered by job volume, so a busy month moves you up a tier.

Trusso's mobile app runs on both iOS and Android, pricing is flat ($29–$99/month regardless of job count), and every plan includes AI lead capture from Angi, Thumbtack, Yelp and Google plus AI-drafted estimates — the follow-up work ServiceM8 leaves to you.

Step 1 — Export your data from ServiceM8

ServiceM8's list exports live in the Advanced Reporting Pack add-on, and a full account backup covers your files:

  1. 1

Enable the Advanced Reporting Pack under Settings → ServiceM8 Add-ons if it isn't already on.

  2. 2

Export the Client List — a CSV of all your saved clients.

  3. 3

Export the Job List — a CSV of your job history for your records.

  4. 4

Download a full account backup from Settings → ServiceM8 Account → Download account backup. This includes jobs, clients, materials and documents in a single download — the CSVs alone don't include photos or PDFs.

The account backup is your archive of attachments and job documents — store it somewhere safe before you close the account.

Step 2 — Import your clients into Trusso

Trusso's CSV import recognizes ServiceM8's column names out of the box, so the Client List lands cleanly:

  1. 1

Start a free 14-day Trusso trial — no card required — and open the web dashboard.

  2. 2

Go to Customers → Import CSV and choose the ServiceM8 export file. The first row should contain column names, which ServiceM8 exports include by default.

  3. 3

Check the column mapping. ServiceM8 column names are recognized automatically — names, email, mobile vs landline numbers, address, tags, notes and lead source. Adjust anything with the dropdowns, or set a column to "Don't import".

  4. 4

Preview the import. Trusso shows every row, flags possible duplicates by matching email or phone, and skips rows with no name. Duplicates are skipped by default.

  5. 5

Hit Import and watch the progress bar. Large lists are fine — imports run in batches of 200, and any rows that fail are listed with the reason.

Imported customers are never opted into SMS automatically — text-message consent stays off until you confirm it per customer, so you stay compliant from day one.

What moves over automatically

  • Customer names. First and last names, plus business/organization names — rows with a business name are tagged as business customers automatically.

  • Contact details. Email addresses and phone numbers, with mobile and landline recognized separately.

  • Addresses. Street, city, state and ZIP map to the customer's service address.

  • Tags and notes. Customer tags and free-form notes come across intact.

  • Lead source. Where each customer came from, if your export includes it.

What to handle manually

  • Open quotes and booked jobs. Re-create work in flight in Trusso — AI estimates make this minutes per job.

  • Job history. Your exported Job List CSV and account backup are the archive; you don't need history live to run the week.

  • Photos, PDFs and job documents. These live in the account backup, not the CSVs — download the backup before cancelling.

  • Materials and services list. Rebuild your rates in Trusso's price book from the materials export.

  • Recurring jobs. Rebuild recurring visit schedules once your clients are imported.

Go-live checklist

  • Spot-check the imported list: client count, a few names, phones and addresses against ServiceM8.
  • Set up your price book from your materials and services export.
  • Re-create open quotes and the upcoming schedule.
  • Install the Trusso mobile app on the crew's phones — iPhone and Android both work.
  • Connect payments (Stripe or Square — Venmo and Zelle also supported) and send yourself a test invoice.
  • Set up lead capture: connect the Angi, Thumbtack, Yelp or Google sources you buy leads from so new leads import and get answered automatically.
  • Invite your crew from Settings — every Trusso plan covers your whole team with no per-user fees.
  • Keep your old exports in a safe folder as your historical archive, then cancel the old subscription once everything checks out.

What switching saves: Trusso vs ServiceM8

ServiceM8 prices by monthly job volume rather than per user — check servicem8.com for current tiers. The catch is that a good month can push you into a higher tier, and the field app requires every crew member to carry an iPhone or iPad.

Trusso is $29–$99/month flat regardless of how many jobs you run, works on iOS and Android, and includes AI lead capture and estimates on every plan.

Common questions

Can my Android crew members use Trusso?

Yes — Trusso has full mobile apps for both iOS and Android, so mixed-phone crews work fine. This is the most common reason ServiceM8 users switch.

Does Trusso import my ServiceM8 job history and photos?

The self-serve CSV import covers your client list — ServiceM8's columns are recognized automatically. Job history stays in your exported Job List CSV, and photos and documents live in the ServiceM8 account backup, which you should download before cancelling.

Do I need the Advanced Reporting Pack to export?

For the Client List and Job List CSV exports, yes — enable it under Settings → ServiceM8 Add-ons. The full account backup under Settings → ServiceM8 Account works regardless and includes your documents.

Will my clients get texts when I import them?

No. Imported customers always start with SMS consent off — you confirm consent per customer before any text goes out.
