Automatic clock-in & out (geofencing)

With location access enabled, the Trusso app draws an invisible boundary (a geofence) around each assigned job's address. Arriving on site clocks the crew member in; leaving clocks them out — even if the app is closed. Every automatic punch sends the crew member a push notification, so nothing happens silently, and the manual clock buttons always keep working as a fallback.

What crew need to turn on

Automatic clocking needs location access set to "Always" (background), so the phone can notice arrivals with the app closed. The crew home screen shows a status line — either how many job sites are armed, or a shortcut to fix the permission. "While using the app" is enough for the manual buttons, but not for automatic clock-in.

Built-in safeguards

Automatic punches are filtered so timesheets reflect real work, not GPS noise:

• Drive-bys don't count. Passing the site and leaving within a couple of minutes discards the automatic clock-in.
• Brief exits don't split a shift. Step out and return within a few minutes and the shift continues unbroken.
• A manual clock-out is respected. Clocking out on purpose while still on site won't bounce you straight back in.
• Recurring jobs match the day. A site with a recurring series only auto-clocks crew into the job actually scheduled for that day — never tomorrow's or yesterday's.
• Forgotten clock-outs close themselves. If a shift is still open when the job completes — or, for recurring jobs, at the end of the day — the system closes it automatically so hours never run overnight.

Seeing what happened

While clocked in, the crew home screen shows a badge with time on the clock. In the clock history (on the job, for crew and for the office) every punch carries an icon: a lightning bolt for automatic, a hand for a manual tap, and a gear when the system closed the entry. Punches made with GPS available also record the distance from the site.
