Importing customers from another CRM (CSV)
Updated August 28, 2026
Switching from another CRM? Export your customer or client list as a CSV file, then bring the whole thing into Trusso in a few clicks. Owners, co-owners, and managers can import.
Step 1 — Upload your file
In the web dashboard, go to Customers → Import CSV and choose your export. Files from Jobber, ServiceTitan, ServiceM8, Housecall Pro, and most other CRMs work out of the box — the first row should contain column names.
Step 2 — Map your columns
Trusso matches your CSV's columns to customer fields automatically — first and last names, email, mobile vs landline phone numbers, address, tags, notes, and lead source. Check the mapping, adjust anything with the dropdowns, and set any column you don't want to Don't import.
- Names: map a full-name column, separate First/Last name columns (they're combined automatically), or a Business/Organization name.
- One-field addresses: if your CRM exports the whole address in one column (like ServiceM8's Company Address), map it to Full address (auto-split) and Trusso separates street, city, state, and ZIP for you.
- Business customers: rows with a Business/Organization name are tagged as business customers automatically; everyone else imports as residential.
- Phones: mobile numbers become the primary phone; telephone/home-phone columns go to the landline field, so nothing gets dropped.
Step 3 — Preview & import
Before anything is saved, Trusso shows every row with all mapped fields, flags possible duplicates (matching the email or phone of an existing customer, or of an earlier row in the file), and skips rows with no name. Duplicates are skipped by default — untick Skip duplicates to import them anyway. Then hit Import and watch the progress bar; any rows that fail are listed with the reason.
Good to know
- Imported customers are never opted into SMS — text-message consent is confirmed per customer, so you stay compliant.
- Large lists are fine: imports run in batches of 200 behind the scenes.
- Columns like lead source and tags carry over, so your history stays intact.
Frequently asked questions
Which CRMs can I import from?
Any CRM that exports customers to CSV. Column names from Jobber, ServiceTitan, ServiceM8, and Housecall Pro are recognized automatically; anything else you can map by hand in the same screen.
Why were some rows skipped?
Rows with no name at all are always skipped, and rows matching an existing customer's email or phone are skipped while Skip duplicates is on. The preview labels each skipped row so you can see exactly why.
Will imported customers receive text messages?
No. Imported customers default to SMS consent off. Open a customer and confirm consent before any SMS goes to them.
